The Beatles 1 - Recorded Version Guitar [Paperback] Review

The previous reviews shown here have nothing to do with this book. They appear to be for "The Beatles Paperback Songbook", which does look to be small and not necessarily accurate.
"The Beatles 1 - Recorded Version Guitar" appears to be exactly what it says: transriptions of the recorded versions. My guitar teacher has spent a couple of sessions breaking down "Day Tripper" off of the CD for me. What this professional musician came up with for this song is almost verbatim what is published in this book. So now I have it written out in a form that I can actually read (and correct as needed). It is a full-size (8.5x11) music book and I look forward to working my way through it.

This edition "took such liberties with the original in the matter of ornaments" (cf. C. Girdlestone, Jean-Philippe Rameau; his life and work, rev. & enl. ed.). If you want a reliable and scholarly edition, find the Jacobi one.

Grateful - The Songs of John Bucchino (P/V/G Composer Collection) [Paperback] Review

I'm sorry to say, I ordered this songbook before visiting the composer's Website, expressly to get my hands on the sheet music for "Grateful" in time for a Thanksgiving church service.I haven't checked the other songs, but it is inaccurate to say that the piano accompaniment as written in this book is exactly as it is on the CD.Fortunately, the composer offers transposed versions, including the key on the CD, for $5 on his Website.That's one thing to be Grateful for.I give the book 5 stars since it is still great music, whatever the key, but best to take a drive by your local music store and look at the book first before buying, or just buy the songs you want in the keys you want from Mr. Bucchino's Website.

The Contemporary Keyboardist - Stylistic Etudes (Instructional) [Paperback] Review

John Novello has composed an excellent collection of contemporary piano studies.All but a few are contained on a single page.Fingering suggestions are plentiful.Chord qualities, progressions, the use of modes, special scales and rhythms are clearly presented.Each piece is annotated at the end of the book and practice suggestions are made.John encourages the player to experiment with these etudes and to write their own.

John describes the work as intended for the advanced beginner to intermediate player.I consider myself at that level.Many pieces in this collection exceed my current abilities.Some are easier.Most are accessible. John's recordings of each etude are on the accompanying CD.I have found listening to the CD enjoyable and helpful.It provides clear examples of how to play his work.Additionally, it has allowed me to quickly pick out pieces I wanted to begin practicing.

While there's not much here for the fan of country music, a wide variety of styles are represented.Jazz, pop and rock styles make up nearly half the collective work.Blues and Latin examples are well represented. The gospel oriented tunes were a delightful surprise.I wish there were more of them.

If you're a fan of Hal Leonard's keyboard style series, you will like this book.It contains less theory and more great examples of how to create and perform contemporary music.I'm certain I will be enjoying this book for years to come.

The item came as advertised, and in time for the holiday.Really cheap headphones included, but bundled packages tend to have junkie fluff items just to satisfy the 'value' shopper.Buyer beware, but also to be expected.However the pedal will not be a high-endurance item either.Basically, if you can find this kit for the price of the charger, treat the rest as bonus items.

Bach 2 & 3 Part Inventions (Kalmus Edition) [Paperback] Review

This edition of the inventions & sinfonias is actually quite good value for money. The fingerings are of course a personal preference, but the main issue I findwith this edition is the poor paper and so-so print quality. Still, great price, just make sure you have some decent lighting and good support when reading from this edition as the stapled back gets a bit flimsy. Otherwise it's quite good VFM. The actual music, of course, speaks for itself. And it does so in spades.
