Phil Collins Anthology (Piano/Vocal/Guitar Artist Songbook) [Paperback] Review

It really is a good book with possibilities for multiple intruments such as guitar, keyboards and piano. A big plus is that all the lyrics are noted at the bars, but I find it difficult to change the pages while playing. It is a paperback and so it isn't so easy to handle.

But the quality of the music itself is very very good. Even a starter could play from this. And it's worth it, especially when you are as much of a fan of Phil as I am.

Jamie Cullum - Twentysomething (Piano/Vocal/Guitar Artist Songbook) [Paperback] Review

If you are looking for a faithful transcription of Jamie's album, this is not it. If you are looking for a slightly challenging book of fun tunes to play, this might be for you. Jamie's vocals are written in as the primary portion of the right hand part. This is a good start, however, for those that are looking to play his wonderful album. It will take a little work on your part to be able to play exactly what Jamie does, but more work to improve is what I need. That's why this gets 3.5 stars.

Disney! (Walt Disney Easy Piano Solos) [Paperback] Review

Usually I am not a huge fan of easy piano books. They tend to be watered-down far too much, to the point that the pieces sound nothing like the original. This book, however, is NOT the case.It features a version of "Beauty and the Beast" which I originally had a single piece of sheet music back in the mid-90's, in addition to tons of other great songs as well. The notes are written large on the pages, there's a great variety of both old and new Disney songs, and they're great for kids who are taking piano lessons. The best thing about these renditions is that they sound so much like the original pieces that when one ofmy students is learning the piece, they want to keep on playing it, causing them to further grow as musicians and most importantly, ENJOY playing music! It's a really great investment!

Some of the most beautiful classical music is included here. Most of it is playable if you're committed enough to practice regularly. It's definitely worth the effort if you've had previous piano instruction.I'm not sure where the dummies part comes in unless you we dumb enough to stop playing the piano after taking all those lessons as a child. The music book challenges you with great songs rather than those you would otherwise find boring from other song books.

Piano Masterpieces of Maurice Ravel [Paperback] Review

I give this book 5 stars because it is the cheapest way to own the best editions of Ravel's greatest masterpieces for piano. The last reviewer is correct in stating that these are reprints of the original french editions, but those editions remain the best since there currently exists no critical or scholarly editions of ravel's piano works. The Dover edition even corrects some errors that existed in the original editions. The last reiviewer likes Nancy Bricard's editions (and other editions published by Alfred edited by Maurice Hinson) but I think Nancy Bricard got a little too happy when she got access to Ravel's manuscript, and purposefully included obvious errors into the score, including a footnote explaining that it's an error, instead of just correcting it.Alfred can hardly be trusted for scholarly editing, so for now, this edition remains the best buy.
