Missing a few goodies, but otherwise these transcriptions get the job done.Unlike other pop keyboard transcriptions these do not try to include the vocal line as part of the arrangement making them more authentic to the original recorded versions, however, "Ain't Talkin' Bout Love" ain't no keyboard song.Would have preferred "Feels So Good".

Best of Creedence Clearwater Revival (Piano / Vocal / Chords) [Paperback] Review

I love this book!I have been a fan of CCR for a long time, and trying to play Fogerty's guitar parts just from internet tabs and/or by ear, is extremely difficult.The Guitar Recorded Versions tab book is easy to read, has the all of the lyrics and multiple guitar parts all together. There are chord diagrams at the beginning of every song as well.I have been playing for maybe a year now, and this is my favorite tab book because of the readability, quality of print, layout of the information...and of course, it's Creedence.

For the money, it's hard to beat any of the Guitar Recorded Versions tab books from Hal Leonard, and the Best of CCR is no different.Highly recommended!

Rock Classics Vol.7 Keyboard Play-Along BK/CD [Paperback] Review

The latest in the Keyboard Play-Along series provides excellent, accurate transcriptions of some great rock songs. The approach in these books is, in general, to arrange the keyboard parts for one player. In other words, if you were the lone keyboard player in a band, but were faced with playing a song that had multiple keyboard parts, what would you play? These transcriptions do a great job of addressing that real-world need. There are some exceptions; for example, the sequenced parts of Baba O'Riley are shown in all their glory. On Carry On Wayward Son, they show both the organ and piano parts, but only the one that is more prominent at any one time, which makes sense.

The CD is an excellent addition, too. The backing tracks have everythingbut vocals, and they sound great. Any cover band could aspire to be as accurate as these backing tracks are! The slowdown software makes it a great learning tool, too.
Highly recommended.

Hal Leonard Steely Dan Piano, Vocal, Guitar Tab Book [Import] [Sheet music] Review

Well, I *am* a piano player and Steely Dan fan who bought this to see what the heck they are doing on some of these songs.If you're an intermediate piano player who is looking for melodies and a reasonably decent sketch of how the song goes, this is the book for you.If you're an advanced player, or a jazz fan, or want to know *exactly* what kind of chord voicings are being used, you might be disappointed on some songs.(Not all songs; some transcriptions are better than others.)The guitar chord listings are the most accurate -- if you follow those rather than the staff, and are familiar with jazz voicings, you can pretty much figure it out.I knew that going in, and I've still found the book worthwhile because figuring out all the A7+(b9) chords by ear gets old quick.

Supertramp - Greatest Hits (Piano/Vocal/Guitar Artist Songbook) [Paperback] Review

This band is seriously underrated and often overlooked. I can't think of a better candidate for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, or for a VH1 Behind the Music (we've seen the Journey story like a thousand times already). Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies are outstanding song writers. These transcriptions are basic and may not be completely accurate in certain cases but this book is still great and these songs are so much fun to play- especially if you happen to have a Wurli or a keyboard with a good Wurli sound...and of course a 12 string guitar. It pretty much focuses on the band during their classic lineup (the only lineup that matters)- Roger Hodgson, Rick Davies, Dougie Thompson, John Helliwell and Bob Seibenberg. The only exception is the song Cannonball. Other than the song "I'm Beggin' You" I don't think any fans will miss any of the less inspirational material released since Roger left. Maybe one day the stars will again align just so and the original band will come together again- at least to accept a long overdue entrance into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame... but until then these songs are a tremendous inspiration for musicians around the world and I highly reccomend this book.
