Enya - The Memory of Trees (Piano/Vocal/Guitar Artist Songbook) [Paperback] Review

If you like Enya's music, and even if you don't, this book offers some great songs to play on the piano. They are very pretty, and fun to play. Lyrics are included, making singing along relatively easy for anyone who likes to.

The Memory of Trees (no lyrics) is kind of repatitive, and the right hand plays in constant 8ths, but it's lovely and a good exercise.
China Roses (lyrics) is very pretty, but a little difficult to play.
Hope Has a Place and From Where I Am I've played before, but right now they escape my memory (they probably have 5 sharps)....
La Sonadora (Spanish? lyrics) is kind of pretty.
On My Way Home (lyrics) is impossible to play up to speed (unless you have an extra hand) but it's good otherwise.
Once You Had Gold is a very pretty song. I think this is one with 4 or 5 sharps, but once you get over that it's fun to play.
Pax Deorum (Latin? lyrics) I've never played the whole thing, because it is boring to play, even though it sounds nice.
Teahouse Moon (no lyrics) is lots of fun; it is also kind of repatitive, but in a great way that makes it easy to play with the dynamics.
Athair Ar Neahm (Gaelic lyrics) is beautiful, lots of fun to play, and another one where playing with the dynamics is great.
Anywhere Is (lyrics) is kind of difficult, but fun once you can play it.

These aren't difficult songs, despite those with many sharps, but not for beginners. Level 4 and up, maybe?

You probably won't like all the songs in this piano book, but the ones you do like you'll play a lot.

Also recommended are Enya's other piano books (Shepherd Moons & Watermark especially). If you like this you'll like those, and visa versa.

I like this book and i also enjoy the movie of this book, i saw the movie first then i read the book and the book is pretty entresting, Most people well enjoy reading about this book,This book is cool, and i'm going to talk about this book. Once apon a time in china their was a war between the good and evil and Mulan dad was part of the war, he was on the good side who
deffends the great wall of china. When the war stated again everyone in china had to deffend the great empire again, and the ones who deffend china get gold, and most of the worrier of china are old, if they had a son, the son can take their place in the battle field, and Mulan dad was old and handi-cap, so Mulan didn't want to lose her father cause of the war. She pray to the ancester that she promise to come back, and she cut her hair short and look like a man and took her father sword and his amor and her ancester brought a dragon to come along with her to protect her, and she ran off on a horse to the camp where the worriers of china be at. This book is a good book and is base on a true story.

Casio LK-270 61 Key Personal Lighted Keyboard with MP3 Connection, USB Port, SD Card Slot, and 570 Tones Review

I have had my LK270 for about a month and am extremely pleased with it.This is a great family instrument with very good sound.Easy to add midi files with the SD card and do they sound great.The lighted keyboard picks up on these files and plays along. Only downside is that to get the wait for key lights for an entire tune takes a few changes and button pushes every time the the keyboard is turned on. Not real intuitive buttons at times and requires using the manual every time for awhile. Casio telephone support experience was very positive and a lot of help. This is not a toy but a musical instrument with a very reasonable price and the lighted keyboard only way to go as I see it for family use keyboard.Be sure to order SD5 power supply imediately !

Built-In Sampling

152 Built-In Songs and Ten User Songs
The LK-270 comes with a bank of songs for your learning and enjoyment, from classics like "Greensleeves" or "Auld Lang Syne" to holiday tunes like "Jingle Bells."
You can also record your own performances, using up to six tracks of different instruments.
Step Up Lessons
To master a song, it is best to break it up into shorter parts (phrases), master the phrases, and then put everything together. The LK-270 features a "Step Up Lesson" feature that helps you to do just that. The built-in songs are pre-divided into phrases to help you master keyboard play. Step Up Lesson takes you through practice of the right hand part, left hand part, and both hand parts for each phrase of a song. Master all of the phrases and you master the song.
Music Challenge Keyboard Game
Music Challenge is a game that measures your reaction speed as you press keys in response to on-screen keyboard indicators and fingering guide indications.
Auto Accompaniment
With Auto Accompaniment, simply select an accompaniment pattern. Each time you play a chord with your left hand the appropriate accompaniment will play automatically. It's like having a personal backup group along with you wherever yougo.
Auto Harmonize
Auto Harmonize automatically adds harmony to notes you play with your right hand, which adds rich depth to the melody of your performances. You can select from among 12 types of Auto Harmonize to suit the type of music you are playing.
Arpeggiator
The Arpeggiator makes it possible to play an arpeggio pattern automatically. There are 90 different arpeggio patterns from which to choose in order to match the music you are playing.

100 Progressive Studies without Octaves, Op. 139: Piano Technique (Schirmer's Library of Musical Classics, Vol. 153) [Paperback] Review

As the title indicates, these pieces are indeed progressive.The C major tonality wears somewhat tiresome in the first pages, but the last pages contain pieces written in difficult keys.

Much of the work is written according to the usual cliches found in intermediate piano solos, but much of it is original and ingenious also.The harmony grows somewhat more pungent in the second half.I counted 1 Phrygian cadence, 1 Italian sixth, 2 German sixths, and 3 Neopolitan sixths.

You will certainly get your money's worth in terms of quantity.A complete rendition of this book lasts about 2 hours.

This work is well-known here in Korea, and it is here that I first learned about it.

Gospel Rhythm and Blues: Hymns and Spirituals for Piano (Lillenas Publications) [Paperback] Review

Bill Wolaver is one of my favorite piano arrangers.His talents are multitude.And one of the strongest is his ability to write jazz, gospel, and blues music.This book shows his talents to the maximum.

The arrangements are not simple; the are not "sit down and just sight-read the music" arrangements -- at least, not at performance quality.But they create exactly the right atmosphere for the individual song that he is arranging.

Bill has quite a musical gift, and I'm glad that he's using at least a portion of it to write down his arrangements so that others may play and enjoy them, as well.

Complete Star Trek Theme Music: Piano Solo (Piano Solo Vocal Selections) [Paperback] Review

This is book of piano solos featuring Star Trek themes.It has all the television show themes through "Star Trek: Voyager" as well asthe movie themes through "Star Trek: First Contact." Incidentally, those two pieces are my favorites.The "FirstContact" theme in particular sounds very nice on the piano, and I haveplayed it numerous times.
I am very pleased that this was offered as apiano solo edition.Many contemporary themes/song books are typicallyinundated with repetitive chords.But I think the arrangements in thisbook are very enjoyable to play.
The proficiency required to play thepieces is probably best described as intermediate.However,beginners/novices may find the "Deep Space Nine,""Voyager," and "First Contact" themes within theirgrasp (and worth playing as well; I personally dislike "big note"or "easy piano" editions of anything).
I guess it's pretty mucha foregone conclusion that if those who like playing the piano and like"Star Trek" will enjoy this book.So if you fit that category, Ihighly recommend this book.
