Complete Etudes for Solo Piano, Series II: Including the Paganini Etudes and Concert Etudes [Paperback] Review

The so good edition of the entire piano music of Franz Liszt ( it's not really complete, sadly) made by the pianist and composer Ferruccio Busoni. It's not easy to find this edition. Dover offers just the completeetudes(in two volumes). As usual for Dover, not first quality printing, butfor this price it's a bargain and a good complement for the Budapestedition.

Easy Pieces: Piano Solo (Schirmer's Library of Musical Classics) [Paperback] Review

I've purchased this collection containing two Kabalevsky's opuses (Op.39 and Op.89) for my kids taking piano lessons. Kabalevsky's easy pieces intended for children are known as excellent scores in terms of pedagogy.

These few pages of really simple scores worth in terms of money as 250 pages of Chopin's brilliant waltzes and nocturnos - although it's not big money but it expresses how Kabalevsky is popular in music schools for piano teaching/learning (my kids' teacher also recommends Kabalevsky).

Printout is excellent as one expects, and collection has soft paper cover (seems that it's intended to be disposed after several music lessons).

Parade: Piano/Vocal Selections [Paperback] Review

Parade is one of the most auspicious debuts by a theatre composer in recent memory.Jason Robert Brown, then in his mid-20s, joined legendary 20-time Tony-winning producer-director Harold Prince and Tony-, Pulitzer- and Oscar-winning playwright Alfred Uhry for a musical about a Jewish man living in Atlanta in 1915 who was wrongly convicted of the murder of a young girl. The result was a critical success and one of the finest theatre scores I've ever heard.I anxiously awaited the release of this score so that I could play the songs and sing the moving melodies at home. The only problem is that Brown is such a talented "rock pianist" (think Jerry Lee Lewis meets Sondheim)that his piano parts are almost unplayable by amateurs such as myself. My advice: buy this book, and get someone very talented to play it for you.

This edition features a detailed plot synopsis, a note from the composer, a biography of Brown, and 12 piano/vocal selections edited by the composer: Big News * Do It Alone * Come Up to My Office * It's Hard to Speak My Heart * My Child Will Forgive Me * Pretty Music * That's What He Said * What Am I Waiting For? * You Don't Know This Man * more.

David Bowie Anthology (Piano, Vocal, Guitar Personality Folio S) [Paperback] Review

I know the product description said this would have 41 songs, but whoa! Now that I'm holding it in hand I realize that 41 songs is a lot of Bowie! Woo Hoo! I'm not the biggest Bowie expert out there, but I think this book is a pretty complete collection of his earlier stuff, and the accuracy of the music seems to be good, you can usually count on Hal Leonard for that. Any pianist/guitarist who is a Bowie fan should save themselves the trouble of rounding up these songs individually, this is a great compilation. It also contains Bowie's collaboration with Queen, "Under Pressure." Nice surprise!
