Best of Creedence Clearwater Revival (Piano / Vocal / Chords) [Paperback] Review

I love this book!I have been a fan of CCR for a long time, and trying to play Fogerty's guitar parts just from internet tabs and/or by ear, is extremely difficult. The Guitar Recorded Versions tab book is easy to read, has the all of the lyrics and multiple guitar parts all together. There are chord diagrams at the beginning of every song as well.I have been playing for maybe a year now, and this is my favorite tab book because of the readability, quality of print, layout of the information...and of course, it's Creedence.

For the money, it's hard to beat any of the Guitar Recorded Versions tab books from Hal Leonard, and the Best of CCR is no different.Highly recommended!

Hal Leonard Steely Dan Piano, Vocal, Guitar Tab Book [Import] [Sheet music] Review

Well, I *am* a piano player and Steely Dan fan who bought this to see what the heck they are doing on some of these songs. If you're an intermediate piano player who is looking for melodies and a reasonably decent sketch of how the song goes, this is the book for you.If you're an advanced player, or a jazz fan, or want to know *exactly* what kind of chord voicings are being used, you might be disappointed on some songs.(Not all songs; some transcriptions are better than others.)The guitar chord listings are the most accurate -- if you follow those rather than the staff, and are familiar with jazz voicings, you can pretty much figure it out.I knew that going in, and I've still found the book worthwhile because figuring out all the A7+(b9) chords by ear gets old quick.

The Rolling Stones- Let It Bleed (Piano/Vocal Guitar) (Alfred's Classic Album Editions) [Paperback] Review

This book is great because it has all the songs from the classic Let it Bleed Album.I was suprised that there were very basic mistakes, for example the introduction states that Brian Jones was replaced by Mick Taylor, an American, after he died.Wha?Mick Taylor is English. Also, the slide guitar solo/interlude for Monkey Man is not correct. There are missing parts to other songs, such as the picking work for Country Honk.I give this 3 stars since this book, like the tab book for Beggars Banquet from Alfred publishing, will give you enough information to play the songs in a similar fashion to the recorded versions.

Garcia: Collector's Edition (Piano/Vocal/Chords) [Paperback] Review

Wow! Someone finally reissued this excellent book.First published by Straight Arrow Publishers, I bought my copy new back in '72 and read it often. It is a great interview with Garcia at a time when the Dead were just taking off. Garcia reveals he "has just made the commitment" to see where the music takes him, and as we all know, the band really went places. Hopefully, the current publishers have reissued it in its original form.
The second part of the book, "A Stoned Sunday Rap," is a great piece that really gets to the heart and soul of the Dead experience, beyond the music. I've always admired the philosophy behind the music for its zen-like approach to life and living; Garcia and Reich tease out the details.
A must-read for anyone who enjoys the Dead.Much better than any of the tell-alls that have been published recently.

The Who Anthology: Piano/Vocal/Guitar (Piano/Vocal/Guitar Artist Songbook) [Paperback] Review

Very happy with our purchase. The book has the music in vocal, guitar and piano for the Who's songs. Very detailed and easy to follow. Well set out in what I consider large print which makes it very friendly to use. Only thing I am worried about is the binding. Still in perfect condition but it is the type of binding that would not take any excessive handling. It will probably come apart fairly quickly. There is not much of a margin for rebinding either.

The Doors Anthology (Piano/Vocal/Guitar Artist Songbook) [Paperback] Review

I'd like to first point out, that reviews for both the 'Guitar Recorded Version' guitar tablature compilation of 'Doors Anthology', and the vocal/piano/guitar chord version of 'Doors Anthology' - are conjoined herein Amazon under both titles. However, both titles are clearly different in content, albeit sharing the same name.

While one reviewer states this title contains selections from "Other Voices", know that the 'Guitar Recorded Version' most certainly does not. For the similar-in-appearance-and-name piano/vocal/guitar chord 'Doors Anthology' of 69 tunes, does contain selections from the post-Morrison "Other Voices". While the 'Guitar Recorded Version' compilation contains only 20 tunes - all original Doors.

And all but two songs in the 'Guitar Recorded Version' compilation, 'Love Street' and 'Blue Sunday', can be found on the 'Legacy: Absolute Best' 2-CD set.

Robbie Krieger contributed greatly to the Doors. His guitar style and fretboard sensibility was crucial to the Doors success. And the 'Guitar Recorded Version' is well written and accurate. While the piano/vocal/guitar chord version of this title is unsuitable for learning Krieger's guitar parts. The 'Guitar Recorded Version' is about 140 pages, while the piano book is about 400 pages. And the 'Easy Tab' version is another animal as well. But I never recommend 'Easy Tab' versions of anything.

So, order carefully.

Contents of 'Guitar Recorded Version':Blue Sunday, Break On Through To The Other Side, Crystal Ship, Five To One, Hello I Love You, L.A. Woman, Light My Fire, Love Her Madly, Love Me Two Times, Love Street, Not To Touch The Earth, People Are Strange, Riders On The Storm, Roadhouse Blues, Soul Kitchen, Spanish Caravan, Touch Me, Twentieth Century Fox, The Unknown Soldier, You Make Me Real
