My daughter loves everything Andrew Lloyd Webber and this is no exception.The music is exactly what you remember from the movies - in other words - it's not watered down.The piano parts are challenging and beautiful and all of the best songs are included.Would buy again in a heartbeat.

Phantom Vocal Selections (Piano) [Paperback] Review

I have seen the Lloyd Webber version two times and the Yeston version four.There is no way that the Lloyd Webber version can match up to the Yeston version.In this book you learn more about the character of Erik,he has a sense of humor, an aching heart, and a love for Christine.Youlearn how he met Christine, who his parents are and why he loves Christine. The Lloyd Webber version is spectacular and I will always love it, but itis very vaugue, and for those who wish to know Erik (the Phantom) this is avery good book to read.

I saw Miss Saigon on Broadway, and it was a wonderful experience, the best musical i've ever seen.The music is very great, and being able to play it on the piano and sing it is simply wonderful.

Back to Titanic (Songbook - Piano) [Paperback] Review

This sheet music collection is of course from James Cameron's "Titanic."Specifically, these songs are found on the second music CD that was released from that movie, "Back toTitanic."
I bought this book because from that second CD there wasone particularly good piano solo, "The Portrait."However, I didnot find it as enjoyable to play as I thought I would.In the othersongbook from "Titanic" that was released is a piece entitled"Rose."That is very similar to "The Portrait" exceptthat "Rose" is a lot more powerful and compelling."ThePortrait" requires a softer touch that what I prefer in pianomusic.
The other pieces were not as enjoyable as the first"Titanic" songbook (which, by the way, is the best book ofsoundtrack music, and it can easily be found by searching for its ISBN:0793592240).A lot of the pieces in this second book are based on songsrather than the score.
Contents: AN IRISH PARTY IN THIRD CLASS *ALEXANDER'S RAGTIME BAND * THE PORTRAIT * JACK DAWSON'S LUCK * A BUILDINGPANIC * NEARER MY GOD TO THEE * COME JOSEPHINE, IN MY FLYING MACHINE * ASHORE NEVER REACHED * MY HEART WILL GO ON (LOVE THEME FROM TITANIC) *EPILOGUE * THE DEEP AND TIMELESS SEA
The "My Heart Will Go On"song is also in the first "Titanic" songbook.That is apiano/vocal/guitar piece, and I did not find it as enjoyable on the pianoas the score music.The rest of the pieces are piano solos (with vocalmusic included for "Come Josephine").One big plus in my mindfor the book is that the publishers did not waste money on full-colorinserts from the movie.
I recommend the other "Titanic"songbook first, and then this only to those who really like the music fromthe movie.

Phantom of the Opera (Easy Piano) [Paperback] Review

By all means, buy this book if these are the songs you want.
However, there is an alternative sheet music collection you should consider if you would like to have songs from some of his other shows. That book is called THE ESSENTIAL ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER COLLECTION (ISBN 0634001604). You can check it out right here at Amazon.com.
That book is a little more expensive but it contains MOST of these "Phantom" songs (except "Masquerade," "Angel of Music" and "Prima Donna") in addition to the key selections from:
"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat"
"Jesus Christ Superstar"
"Evita"
"Starlight Express"
"Cats"
"Aspects of Love"
"Sunset Boulevard"
The book you are looking at now is a great collection of songs from "Phantom." If you want/need to have "Masquerade," "Angel of Music" and/or "Prima Donna" then you'll have to get this book. If you don't want songs from those other shows then this "Phantom" book is right for you.
If you're anything like me, you'll go for the bigger book and get more bang for your buck.
Either way, you're sure to get hours of enjoyment singing along with the cast recording(s) or with piano accompaniment. Having the sheet music is very helpful in terms of learning the song. Also, my ability to sight read is improving.
