AS a fellow believer and musician, I find the other review appalling!!If one cannot listen to the trilogy and hear the artistry and the lyrical genius Michael -pardon the pun-brings to the table-one has a problem.His fresh look at the life of Christ-is refreshing!!I wonder why the author of the other review has to steel himself to listen to such conscise and masterful lyrics that delve into the mystery of Christ's birth, death and resurrection.Michael is a folk singer -and though he may not be the greatest singer or musician, he is a notch above the rest of the Christian Singer songwriters simply for his heartfelt and wonderful wedding of lyrics and melody.How can onel listen to "Joseph's Song and not be moved?How can one listen to "The Promise" and not be amazed at how well Michael delivers his theology and takes our breath away with his poetry?who cannot listen to "Why" and not be moved to tears?who can listen to "What Will It Take" without examining his own soul?THIS MAN IS AN ARTIST-HE PAINTS VIVID PICTURES WITH LYRICS AND MELODY-AND LIKE A VAMPIRE HUNTER DRIVES THE POINTS TO OUR HEARTS AND MINDS.THIS IS NOT CCM PAP EAR CANDY-THIS IS ARTISTIC MUSIC WITH A VISION OF HELPING US APPRECIATE CHRIST AND HIS DEATH FOR OUR SINS.
Michaels's music is challenging and engaging at the same time.ONe cannot walk away from this project without thinking new thoughts about their faith and the object of it.attempting to tell the story of Christ in music is a daunting task-and while I do not care for all of the music-the message is solid and the lyrics will sometimes cause your jaw to drop as michael delivers an old point in a new way.Such as in the song "God's Own Fool"when he sing"And so we folow God's own fool.for only the foolish can tell. Believe the unbelievable, and come be a fool as well."
Find the cds and revel in them.The music collection covers Christmas and Easter as well.

This is a very interesting edition of the 15 Alfred Burt Christmas carols.It includes not only the original music and lyrics, but also images of the original greeting cards which were sent out between 1942-54.Burt died too soon at the age of 33, and included in this book are writings by his wife Anne which tell about the carols and her life with Alfred.Many people already know "Some Children See Him," "Caroling, Caroling," and "The Star Carol," but "All On A Christmas Morning" and "Come, Dear Children" are just as great.Burt was the son of an Episcopal rector, but he was also influenced by jazz, so you find both hymnody and modern harmonies in his work."The Star Carol" is not only his masterpiece, it is also one of the greatest carols ever written.

Worship Suite for Trumpet and Piano: Instrumental Duet Series, Book 2 (Lillenas Publications) [Paperback] Review

If you have a trumpeter and pianist in your church, this is an excellent duet book.The arrangements are fun and not too demanding on the piano, requiring decent proficiency but not excessive virtuosity.Lloyd Larson always, in my experience, does great work and this book is no exception.Also, the trumpet part is included on a separate removable section, so you only need the one book to perform the duets.Some of the pieces do get a little high on the trumpet, but this tends to be exception, and in most cases the trumpet player can just drop down a third or whatever and still sound good.As a church pianist, I've had some of the most enjoyment playing pieces from this book with our trumpet player, and the congregation has loved the arrangements.

Phillip Keveren's piano solo arrangements included in this 'Late Intermediate' ability level book are 14 contemporary worship songs.In addition to the title piece, "Shout to the Lord", other popular song arrangements are "Oh Lord, You're Beautiful" and "Shine, Jesus, Shine."
Each song begins with a separate page with the words of the song and comments from the arranger.Knowing the words makes playing the arrangement easier and more meaningful.
The arrangements vary in musical style: some include a compatible and familiar classical theme, one begins with a music box sound, another incorporates an old, well-known children's song.
Mr. Keveren has used a Mozart setting for my favorite piece in this book, "Thy Word." All of the song arrangements in "Shout to the Lord" are pleasing to the ear, flow smoothly in transitions and are especially enjoyable to play.I highly recommend this piano solo book to provide delightful music for personal joy or to prepare for use in a church setting.

Casting Crowns (Easy Piano) [Paperback] Review

Prior to buying this book, I had earlier bought a piano score of "Who Am I" from praise-charts, and it was excellent. But the arrangements in this book don't sound like the stuff I heard on the CD, and the score keeps following the melody like a hymn with the chords beneath. Certainly not what I expected. I might as well just play the chords; only the intros sound true to type.

I just started playing piano again after a 20-year break, and this book was way too difficult for me.I used to play many hymns, but the music in this book is much more difficult, requiring you to play a great deal of sharps and flats.I used to play "Just As I Am," for example, with almost no sharps and flats, but this book requires you to play them continuously with this song.This could be a great book for experienced musicians, but if you're still getting up-to-speed -- like me -- you might want to try another hymn book.
